Weekly ideas to stimulate reflection, inspire new possibilities and encourage new ways of doing and being.
1. Test the water
This week’s word is: Gratitude
Gratitude is a positive emotion that involves being thankful and appreciative for something received, whether tangible or intangible.
The word "gratitude" comes from the Latin word "gratitudo," which means "thankfulness" or "gratefulness." This, in turn, is derived from "gratus," meaning "pleasing" or "thankful."
What is your definition of gratitude and how do you relate to it? Discuss the question here.
2. Experience the initial wave
To broaden your perspective, take a few minutes to read the following quotes and ideas and notice what comes up for you.
I.
“Living in a state of gratitude is the gateway to grace.” Arianna Huffington
II.
“Piglet noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.” A.A. Milne, “Winnie-the-Pooh”
III.
Gratitude has been extensively studied in psychology and is recognized for its profound benefits on mental and emotional well-being, including improved sleep, stronger immune system, higher self-esteem, reduced stress, lower blood pressure, and decreased anxiety and depression. Psychologist Robert Emmons highlights that gratitude can transform lives by helping people focus on the present and enhancing positive emotions. This focus can boost self-worth by reminding individuals that they are valued and cared for, ultimately encouraging healthier lifestyle choices and behaviors.
3. Dive deep
To gain a deeper understanding and spark new discoveries, this week I invite you to reflect on the following questions:
How does gratitude look like to you?
How do you know if you are experiencing a sense of gratitude?
Can you recall a time when gratitude changed your perspective on a situation? What benefits did you experience as a result of that shift in perspective?
4. Ride your radiant wave
A grateful perspective brings happiness and abundance into a person's life. This week, I encourage you to embrace gratitude not just as a practice, but as a way of seeing the world.
Rather than simply listing things you're thankful for, try to immerse yourself in the broader essence of gratitude. When you shift your focus to this perspective, you’ll find that it transforms your outlook, revealing opportunities for joy and appreciation in everyday moments. Embrace this mindset, and watch how it enriches your life!
