Weekly ideas to stimulate reflection, inspire new possibilities and encourage new ways of doing and being.

1. Test the water

This week’s word is: Grace

Grace often refers to elegance, beauty and smoothness in movement or appearance, as well as kind, charming and courteous behaviour. Grace can also denote unearned divine favour or special blessings from a higher power.

The word "grace" originates from the Latin word "gratia," which means "favor," "kindness," or "thanks." "Gratia" itself is derived from "gratus," meaning "pleasing" or "thankful."

What is your definition of grace how do you relate to it? Discuss the question here

2. Experience the initial wave

To broaden your perspective, take a few minutes to read the following thoughts and notice what comes up for you.

I.

"Grace means that all of your mistakes now serve a purpose instead of serving shame." Brené Brown

III.

Leading with grace can be deeply understood through the values encapsulated in the acronym GRACE

  • Generosity: The spirit of openness and sharing

  • Respect: The ability to build trust and foster an inclusive environment where diversity is embraced

  • Action: The power to mobilize and make things happen

  • Compassion: The ability to care deeply about others and their wellbeing

  • Energy: The drive and enthusiasm needed to propel a team or a project forward.

3. Dive deep

To gain a deeper understanding and spark new discoveries, this week I invite you to reflect on the following questions:

  • What are some specific situations where you struggle to give others or yourself grace?

  • How do you handle situations where accountability and grace seem to conflict?

  • How can you increase your awareness of when you need to shift from accountability to grace or vice versa?

4. Ride your radiant wave

In music, grace notes are extra, ornamental notes that are not part of the main melody but are added to embellish or enhance it. They are played quickly before the main note they precede, adding a decorative touch and contributing to the expressiveness of the music. This week I invite you to incorporate grace notes into your life. You can do this by adding a personal touch to your interactions and surroundings, celebrating your small wins, offering encouragement or positive words, or carrying out small and unexpected acts of kindness. Just as grace notes in music add beauty and nuance to the main melody, you can enrich your life with practices that enhance and add beauty to your daily experiences.
