This week’s word is: Favour
The word favour has many meanings, primarily around acts of kindness and support. In a general sense, a favour means to perform a service or show kindness without expecting anything in return. It can also mean approval, support or endorsement.
Favour derives from the Latin word favere meaning to show kindness to or goodwill.
What is your definition of favour and how do you relate to it? Discuss the question here.

II.
In ancient Greece and Rome, the favour of the gods was viewed as a fundamental element that influenced all aspects of life and could shape narratives and destinies. In many literature texts (such as Homer’s epics The Iliad and The Odyssey) divine favour is not seen as a static concept, but rather a dynamic interplay between mortal actions and divine will. The Greek and Roman texts often use the gods’ favour to discuss themes of fate, justice, and morality, presenting a complex theological and philosophical landscape where humans must navigate their desires against those of the divine. This relationship highlights the belief that while the gods can be petitioned and pleased, they remain ultimately unpredictable and sovereign.
