11:11 Waves Blog 59: Anger

Weekly ideas to stimulate reflection, inspire new possibilities and encourage new ways of doing and being.

1. Test the water

This week’s word is: Anger

Anger is an intense emotional state of belligerence, displeasure and antagonism that arises in response to a perceived threat or provocation. The word traces back to the Old Norse word 'angra' meaning to grieve or to be in distress.

What is your definition of anger and how do you relate to it? Discuss the question here.

2. Experience the initial wave

To broaden your perspective, take few minutes to read the following thoughts and notice what comes up for you.

I.

"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured." Mark Twain

II.

“Anybody can become angry — that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way — that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.” Aristotle

III.

" Your anger always reveals what in life you feel dis-empowered about”. Teal Swan

3. Dive deep

To deepen your awareness and spark new discoveries, this week I invite you to become aware of your anger by picking a situation and exploring the following questions:

  • What triggered your anger?

  • How did you express it and what was the impact?

  • What deeper feelings or unmet needs is your anger indicating?

  • How can you better manage your anger moving forward?

4. Ride your radiant wave

Fire is often used as a metaphor to describe anger. So, this week, when you feel anger arising, I invite you to turn to water. Water, in all its manifestations, be it a stream, a lake, an ocean, a bath, a shower or even a drip from a tap is known for its ability to alleviate anger. Water has the power to heal, harmonize and cleanse. This week I encourage you to drink water, immerse yourself in water and surround yourself with water and notice what happens to the way you feel.
