Every Monday, I share 1 question for you to contemplate, 1 idea from me, 1 quote from others, and 1 inspiration for us.
This week’s topic is: Diversity
This weekend, like every year, I watched the grand final of Eurovision. Eurovision is the world’s largest musical competition that features participants from countries from across Europe (and beyond). While over the years, Eurovision has become more and more a laser-flashing, high-energy musical extravaganza, I still enjoy to see the various musical interpretations of each artist and getting to experience how contestants and fans from different countries, cultures and traditions come together to celebrate diversity through music.
One Question for you
Strength lies in differences, not in similarities.

One Idea from me
Diversity drives creativity and innovation, fosters empathy and social cohesion, boosts personal awareness and encourages learning and personal growth. The discovery, appreciation and celebration of the many different dimensions of diversity and humanity’s beautiful differences can deliver more colourful life experiences and make the world a better place for everyone. In this increasingly interconnected world, it’s easier than ever to invite in diversity in your life – below I am sharing four suggestions (mostly on cultural diversity) on how you can do just that:
Learn a new language: Learning a new language can introduce you to new ways of imagining the world. Language and culture are inseparable and languages are as diverse as cultures. Studying a new language can also get you thinking in new ways about your own language and lead you to surprising connections between languages like similar words, grammatical rules or fun idioms. This week, I invite you to download DuoLingo a fun language app and immerse yourself in a new language!
Attend a Human Library event: The Human Library, first established in Denmark in 2000, offers the opportunity to interact with people you might not otherwise meet and have a conversation with them about their lives, personal experiences, hopes and ideas. Every human book represents a group in our society that is often subjected to bias, discrimination and prejudice and this method is designed to promote active dialogues to break stereotypes, challenge intolerance and promote inclusion and equity. This week I invite you to check out the events page of the Human Library website and sign up for an event near you.
Try out new recipes: Food is a window to cultural diversity. This week I invite you to try out some new recipes from around the world (click here for some inspiration) or explore some local ethnic restaurants and try food from a different culture that you have never tasted before.
Check out some international movies: There are many great international movie options on Netflix, iTunes or Amazon Prime. However, consider selecting a streaming service for movies and series that is serious on subtitles. For example, if you are interested in Asian movies or series, I strongly recommend you to sign up with Rakuten Viki – this is a streaming platform where teams of translators work together and produce very high-quality translations (taking into account cultural considerations that are so essential to grasp the nuances of international content).
